About Us
Lapa'au Farm is a 2 acre regenerative bio-intensive farming operation located in Olinda at 3300 feet elevation. Our soils are andesol, meaning they are derived from ash when the cinder cones blew, covering out area in around 10 feet of it. This broke down into our top 8 inches of soil creating a more silty soil structure with good drainage and high mineral content. We practice “beyond organic” methods, which means we forgo modern organic methods that allow a long list of pesticides and fungicides to still be used. Instead, we focus on biodiversity and seasonal crops, with a strong focus on building organic matter in our soil.
Practices
We grow organically through adding in high levels of diversified organic matter, cover cropping, and rotating our crops seasonally to replenish our soils and avoid pest and disease pressure.
